Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry in Lynnwood, WA — Comfortable Care, Even If You Dread the Dentist

If fear, a sensitive gag reflex, a long procedure ahead, or a bad experience years ago has kept you out of the dental chair, sedation dentistry changes the experience completely. At The Dental Atelier in Lynnwood, Dr. Kunal Narang is IV-sedation certified — a credential that requires advanced training and current ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) certification — so we can offer every level of sedation in one office, from a little nitrous oxide for a cleaning to full IV sedation for All-on-4 implant surgery.

Three levels of sedation, matched to you

  • Nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) — mild relaxation you breathe through a small nose mask. You stay fully awake, it wears off within minutes, and you can drive yourself home. Ideal for cleanings, fillings and nervous kids and teens.
  • Oral sedation — a prescription tablet taken before your visit. You’ll feel deeply relaxed and drowsy, and many patients remember little of the appointment. You’ll need a ride home.
  • IV sedation — medication delivered through a small IV and adjusted moment to moment by Dr. Narang. You drift into a sleep-like state with no awareness of the procedure, while your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen are monitored continuously. This is the option we recommend for implant surgery, wisdom teeth and full-mouth treatment. You’ll need a companion to drive you home.

Who sedation dentistry helps

  • Dental anxiety or phobia, including patients who haven’t seen a dentist in years
  • Long or complex treatment you’d rather finish in one visit — dental implants, extractions and wisdom teeth, full-arch restorations
  • A strong gag reflex or difficulty getting numb
  • Sensitive teeth, TMJ pain or trouble holding your mouth open
  • Special healthcare needs

What to expect

Before sedation we review your medical history and medications, then match the level of sedation to your health and your treatment. On the day, you’ll relax in a private treatment room with a heated neck pillow, noise-cancelling headphones and a weighted blanket while we get you comfortable. With oral or IV sedation, an adult must drive you home and stay with you for a few hours; most people feel back to normal by the next morning.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes, when it’s provided by a trained, certified provider. Dr. Narang holds IV-sedation certification with ongoing training, and every sedated patient is monitored throughout treatment. We’ll tell you honestly if a medical condition means a lighter option is the better choice.

Cost and insurance

Nitrous oxide is the most affordable option; oral and IV sedation are priced by the length of treatment and quoted before your visit. Coverage varies by plan, so we’ll check your benefits for you, and our membership plan and financing options can help. You’ll always know the cost before we begin.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be unconscious? With IV sedation you’ll be in a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state but still able to breathe on your own and respond to gentle prompts. Most patients remember nothing.

Can I eat before my appointment? For IV sedation we’ll ask you not to eat or drink for several hours beforehand — we’ll give you exact instructions. For nitrous oxide, a light meal is fine.

Can my child have sedation? Nitrous oxide is commonly used for anxious children. We’ll discuss other options based on age, health and the treatment needed.

How do I book? Call 425-774-0111 or request an appointment and tell us you’re interested in sedation. We’ll set up a short consultation to plan your visit.
